The Post’s Joel Sherman previews the AL Central:
1. Detroit Tigers
O/U wins: 83.5
Key player: Gleyber Torres. The Tigers needed righty diversity in their lineup and invested one year at $15 million hoping the Torres who took off as Yankees leadoff hitter down the stretch and in the playoffs will persist all season. Also key to this is what the right side of the infield looks like. Torres, who led second basemen with 18 errors last season, has moved the defensively limited Colt Keith to first base.
Player who’ll need to step up: Casey Mize. Detroit had the first overall pick in 2018 and took Mize, and again in 2020, when they selected first baseman Spencer Torkelson. Both have underwhelmed to the point they were fighting to make the roster in spring. With AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal arguably the best starter in the league and a reunion with Jack Flaherty, the Tigers have a chance to have the division’s best/deepest rotation, which would be easier to attain if Mize honors his talent.
