The Nationals have the Racing Presidents.
The Brewers have the Racing Sausages.
And now the Mets will have the “Five Borough” mascot race at Citi Field this season.
The Amazin’s revealed the new in-game entertainment during Tuesday’s “What’s New at Citi Field 2025” event at the team’s Queens ballpark that will feature mascot characters representing each of New York City’s five boroughs.
Brooklyn will be represented by a headband-wearing pizza slice, a skyscraper with a Mets flag attached to the top will serve as the rep from Manhattan, Staten Island will fittingly be a ferry wearing a Mets hat, a stern-looking giraffe will rep The Bronx and a subway car with a pigeon sitting atop it with a Mets logo will be the Queens racer.
Each mascot made its first appearance during the event and was high-fived by Mr. and Mrs. Met after being introduced.
After a surprising run to the NLCS last season and the signing of superstar Juan Soto in free agency, the Mets have plenty of buzz as the season begins Thursday.
All that added up appears to have boosted ticket sales, with the team announcing during the event that the club’s “traditional” season ticket packages for 2025 were sold out and that they have the highest season ticket holder base in franchise history — though specific numbers weren’t made available.
The Mets also revealed a slew of new food options that would be available to fans this upcoming season and shared news that Citi Field was voted No. 1 best ballpark food in America in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
“No surprise to us, obviously, because we take a lot of pride in the food offerings,” said Katie Haas, Mets Executive Vice President of Ballpark Operations Experience.
The Mets will get to debut their new mascot race and food offerings on April 4 when they host the Blue Jays in the home opener.
