After an Emmy-winning debut season in 2023, “The Last of Us” returns for Season 2 tonight.
The first season was inspired by the hit video game of the same name that followed a global pandemic stemming from a mass fungal infection; Season 2 will begin to adapt “The Last of Us Part II,” though that will take more than one season to accomplish. Luckily, the show has already been renewed for Season 3 ahead of tonight’s premiere.
Five years after the events of Season 1, viewers will reunite with the now-19-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey), whose relationship with Joel (Pedro Pascal) has strained significantly in the intervening years.

How closely will Season 2 follow the events of the second game, which introduces several new characters?
Series creator Craig Mazin told The Post, “Fans know what happened in the game. They don’t necessarily know the plot events of the show.”
