North Carolina Highway Patrol Investigating Wreck that ended down an Embankment

An elderly man was injuried after crashing down and an embarkment in Cumberland County Tuesday night.

An elderly man from Hoke County was rushed to a hospital Tuesday after driving down an embankment in Cumberland County.

The crash happened near Tom Starling Road and US Business 95 just outside of Hope Mills.

First responders say the 90-year-old man was driving west on Tom Starling Road when he failed to stop at the light and drove off the road. His vehicle dropped about 15 feet down an embankment and came to a rest in the trees.

Investigators say witnesses to the accident helped them find the man, who was out of sight of the roadway.

The accident is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
